    Rafał Olbiński
    Rafal Olbiński was born in 1943 in Kielce. An outstanding painter, graphic artist, set designer and poster designer, he is an internationally respected artist. In 1969 he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. Twelve years later, in 1981, he moved to Paris and then to the United States, where he still lives and creates his works. Rafał Olbiński's illustrations and posters have graced the covers of the most well-known magazines, such as the New York Times, Time and Newsweek, and he is also the creator of posters for American operas, staged in San Francisco, New York and Philadelphia, among others. Olbiński's works are in the collections of prestigious institutions - The National Arts Club in New York and the Suntory Museum in Osaka, as well as in many private collections. Exhibited in Poland, Japan, the US and Germany, among other countries, this artist's works gather a multitude of admirers. He has won more than 150 prestigious awards and prizes. In 1976 he was awarded 1st prize in the competition of the Institute for Human Rights in Strasbourg, in 1994 he received the so-called international Oscar in the “Prix Savignac” competition in Paris for the most unforgettable poster in the world, and the following year the main prize in the “New York City Capital of the World” competition. He is an artist decorated with the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland (1996), the Gold Medal “Meritorious to Culture Gloria Artis” (2005) and the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, which he received in 2012 from the hands of President Bronisław Komorowski.
